Nourished Skin Co

Kate, Founder & creative talent behind Nourished Skin Co, and a very good friend of mine, had a dream to start her own natural skin care line. She grew up in the 80’s when natural therapies and natural health products were far from cool or on trend. Nonetheless, it had been ingrained in Kate since she was young, when her mother used to take her to visit their local naturopath. She remembers when her mother grew the most disgusting giant mushroom in a bucket under their stairs which, at the time she did not know, was the now hugely popular Kombucha! 

One day Kate’s grandpa said something to her that really stuck in her mind. He said ‘you know how your nana wears lipstick, well did you know that she will consume eight margarine tubs of lipstick in her life?’  This astounded her as a child. Where did the lipstick go? Did it just stay in your body?

After obsessively loving coconuts for many years, Kate started to make a coconut body lotion which took years to perfect. Then she moved onto lip balm, as she could not find any product she wanted to put on her lips (or basically eat as it would be). The more Kate delved into it, the more she wanted to do.

Whilst Kate was successful working a full time career, she really wanted to do something more, that was sustainable, good for humanity, animals and the world. So, starting with making product in her kitchen and working on her laptop at night researching, she came up with launching her own brand. She created a logo and began an online presence with a Shopify  e-commerce store. 

Kate makes the products herself using local, organic and ethically sourced ingredients. All packaging is recyclable but more importantly her lotion bottle is made from recycled plastics. Her bath salt pouches and paper bags are biodegradable and compostable. Sustainability is a key part of the brand principles. All of the products are tested on herself and her happy & willing family & friends.  They genuinely love every product and there are more in development. 

All it takes is some passion from you and support from your loved ones. Don’t be afraid to give it a go, as that’s where the success lies… it may not be your first attempt that’s a winner but keep trying and you’ll see the fruits of your labour. And remember to keep your story yours.
